Welcome to the research section of Family Tree Forum site.

It’s our jewel in the crown, where information is stored in various sections to help in the successful growing of your family tree.

Not only will the information in here help you to grow the tree, you will no doubt find links and sources of information to help you really feel what it was like to live in the times of those that went before us.

Going on into the research sections

Each of our section headings had a picture. That picture suggests what can be found in each section, and are pretty self explanatory. To enter the section, simply place your mouse pointer over the picture and click on it.

Before we actually click on anything and start going off into the sections, it would be as well to know how to get back to the main page- its one thing to go in to what might seem like a maze but possibly more daunting if you don’t know the way out.

Finding your way out

There are various ways of getting back out of the research section, depending on where you are at the time.

If you are simply looking at a section, On the left side of the screen there will always be the navigation box

Navigation
Main Page (< Screen shot, circled in red)
Community portal
Current events
Recent changes
Random page
Help
Donations

Point your mouse cursor over the words Main Page and simply click your mouse, and you are straight back to the main page

At the bottom of each page you will also find a place which will take you back to either where you came from (back to a section) or back to the main page. Sometimes there will be both. Again, just point and click.

Another option is to click on your green back arrow on your browser bar

Many page will have a table of Contents at the top - anything in that table can be clicked on to take you to the particular section you want - you down have to scroll down- and also serves to show what is in the section.

Research

Clicking on this, will take you to the forum part of the site, more specifically the boards that deal with family history research. Here you can ask Questions and opinions of other members, which will, hopefully, be answered in a matter of moments. If there is a question you want to ask, don’t ever feel it’s a silly question - if you don’t know the answer, it’s not silly.

Create_fr.jpg

Click on this picture, and you will learn all the fundamental steps in creating your family tree- who to ask, who is who and the logical way to go about growing your tree successfully.

Community

Click on this picture, and you will be taken to the community part of the forum, the parts where like minded genealogists take a break from their research and indulge in general conversation as well as interacting socially in the forum Street and much more. All are welcome- its open 24/7 so take some time out of research to relax and socialise too.

Here we discover all manner of information about anything that will usually be found associated with records, and information as to what we can expect to find on which records. If you are not sure what info you can find on a census return, for instance, this is the place to find out. The main page covers the basic records, on from this, in other records there are listed many topics from Coroners records to workhouse records. If you want to source a record of any sort, this is probably the page that will help you.

All about Certificates

The section devides into English and Wales/ Scotland sections part way down the page - click on the one most appropriate to your needs, which will take you on to specific infomation.

150px-World_Map2_fr.jpg

Click on this picture, and you'll find a selection of Countries for which we have, so far, got infomation and /or links. There are no doubt countries that are not featured that we will add in the future as the need arises- if you have roots in a particular country that isn featured, shout to a scad/moderator and we can soon add it for you, (or help you add it yourself), provided you have any info to go on it.

World Index Page

150px-Counties_fr2.jpg

This is really a short cut from the world index page, which takes you to Great Britian pages. Being home turf for a lot of our members , ths page is subdivided more than other countries, with links and discriptions for all Counties and Island crown dependencies listed under thier individual county. Click on the name of the county you wish to research, and see what is there. If yiu find site or reference you'd like added to the page, again, just alert a scad or mod if you are not confident in doing it yourself.
