Malta, a country composed of three major islands, is located in the Mediterranean Sea south of Italy. It became a British colony in 1814 only to gain independence in 1964. Tourism is the main industry in Malta.

Civil Registration started in Malta in 1863, prior to that birth may be recorded in Parish Records which started in the 1500s. Few parish records are accessible. The library in Valletta holds The Adami Collection which is of interest for genealogy purposes, as it has marriages listed from the Parish Registers. Malta is a Roman Catholic Country. The Maltese Language is made up from Italian, Arabic, Scilian and English.
