Ponteland
The lower parts of the tower, including the west door, are the earliest (twelfth century) parts of St Mary. There are however stones with tenth century carving which suggests an earlier structure on the site and the main part of the current building can be dated to the thirteehth century. The Victorian period saw restoration to the roof and two late aadditions are the organ (1973), and a ring of six bells in 2001.
