Take the art works of Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Tintoretto and Caravaggio, the operas of Verdi and Puccini, the cinema of Federico Fellini, and add the architecture of Venice, Florence and Rome, and you have fine examples of Italy's treasures from over the centuries.
Italy's main exports are machinery and transport equipment, chemicals, clothing, wine, and not, as often assumed, pasta.
Italian research is very difficult.
There's nothing online apart from a few bits and pieces on the LDS site.
Unless you know the place of birth of the person you're looking for (preferably the parish), it's pretty much a non-starter.
Civil registration began in about 1866, and finding information before that date is even harder.
