My Grandparents were married at St Johns Parish Church, Ipswich, on 5 March 1917.

This was typical dress for a working class wedding.

If the groom was in the forces then he would wear his uniform not a suit. Submitted by Katarzyna

Amelia and Percy were married at East Wittering in 1922, it was a double wedding, her sister Annie married on the same day. Amelia was 25.

Annie Steel and Thomas Bennett at East Wittering. It was a double wedding - her sister married the same day. Annie was an older bride at 33, her choice of outfit is quite different from that of her 25 year old sister.

The brides were daughters of Alfred Steel, landlord of the Royal Oak, East Wittering. There are a variety of hats, older ladies favouring more old fashioned styles. Some of the men wear black armbands due to a recent bereavement. In the public bar some of the regulars can be seen watching from the window.

Adela and Bert outside her father's pub at East Wittering, she had been in service, and he was the village carpenter. She was 34 at the time of her marriage.
