United Reformed Church In 1822 Thomas Castle a coastguard who lived on the Isle of Grain became concerned at the lack of spirituality among the local community so he began holding services in his cottage. A meeting house was finally opened in 1827 and was replaced by a larger building in 1895. The district council accepted formal closure in 2000
