Doddington

St Mary and St Michael church sits at the edge of the village, accessed via a narrow track. Reputedly the site of a church in the thirteenth century, the present building largely dates from the 1830's. The old North doorway is now blocked and this part of the church contains the altar and vestry. The later addition of the chancel to the West means the church faces West and is the most unusual feature of the building. Along with the church at Belford, Doddington also has a watchtower in the graveyard, this additional building was used to protect the graveyard against body-snatchers supplying the medical schools in Edinburgh.
