Channel Islands Map (source: Wikipedia)

The Channel Islands are a group of 5 inhabited islands, namely Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm, situated between France and England on the edge of the English Channel. The Channel Islands have been a British Crown Dependency since 1066 and are known world wide for their locally grown flowers, their new potatoes and their cattle which produce the famous Channel Islands dairy products. The Islands are steeped in history, particularly as the Islanders are famous for their resistance during the German occupation in World War II, with remnants of that war very much in evidence. Liberation Day is still a very important day for the Islanders, and is commemorated with both sadness and optimism.
