The girls' grandmother (b1850) lived with them and had been a seamstress. She made all their knickers (not visible!) in the style of her own girlhood, with a flap that buttoned onto the waistband - this resulted in "accidents" for the younger girls who found the fastenings difficult. The old lady died in 1928. |
