Oxfordshire
County town: Oxford
Other major towns: Witney, Abingdon
The county itself is mainly agricultural in terms
of its production, with paper, brick and cement manufacture all apparent. Famed for its university city of 'Dreaming Spires' the county is also home to the River Thames and its tributaries, the Cotswolds and the Chiltern Hills.
In Bladon, just south of Blenheim Palace, is the resting place of Winston Churchill and Lady Randolph Churchill. Flora Thompson’s semi-autobiographical novel, “Lark Rise to Candleford” describes her childhood in the 1880s in the hamlet of Juniper in the north of the county.
