Hamilton

Now known as Hamilton West Parish Church but formally founded in c1874 as "Burnbank Mission Station" of St John's Free Church and rebuilt in the 1880s in a Gothic style designed by John Hutchinson. The internal hammerbeam roof is one of the finest in the country and the organ installed in 1902 is still in use today.
Hamilton had several places of worship at the time with a combined capacity of over 5000 sittings, a sign of the expansion in the area due in part at least to the mining industry.
