Southwark Christ Church

  • Christ Church, Southwark in its present state dates from 1959 and replaces the former building which was bombed in World War II. The previous building replaced the original one of 1670 which had to be demolished due to subsidence into marshland.

Southwark, St Saviour

  • All Hallows was built in 1880 and closed in 1971. The churchyard is maintained as a public garden and plans by the diocese to demolish the church and replace it with flats has met with local opposition.
  • Holy Trinity was built in 1824 on land originally owned by Trinity House. The church was declared redundant in 1972, but since 1977 has been the Henry Wood Concert Hall.
  • Welsh Congregational Chapel. The chapel dates from 1872, replacing an earlier one of 1806.
