There are limitations but with a mixture of Table and Gallery it is well possible to create albums within the Wiki and hosting the pictures elsewhere.

E.g.

A Gallery of thumbnails on one row with a table of text links below ....

Only gives a choice between either a picture which will take you to the photobucket version or a text link which will also take you to the photobucket version so you don't have a caption underneath.

If you Click an image you see the picture as uploaded to the wiki.

If you click the link below an image, you will see the orginal image exactly as hosted on photobucket.

MediaWiki Gallery limitations: it has a mind of its own over sizing and layout and you don't get the frame effect as in the table.
