Ancestry Partial Freebmd

The partial freebmd index can be used to quickly find reference numbers for many English/Welsh births, marriages and deaths from 1837 to around 1910. Not all results are recorded, however the results screen makes it far quicker and easier to locate possible matches than by using the full index.

An illustrated guide to searching the full index can be seen at Using the Complete BMD Indexes on Ancestry

Illustrated Guide

The illustration shows how entering a few details (name, approximate year of birth and in this case the place) will allow you to see potential matches. By clicking on a name from the list of matches you can then view the record which shows the district, quarter and the General Register Office reference number you will need to order a certificate from the General Register Office.

Try a search for one of your ancestors using the illustration as a guide, it is quick, easy and completely free.
